2018 is going to be a year of many leadership transitions at UCT. We will say goodbye to VC, Dr. Max Price and welcome in our new VC, Prof. Phakeng. It has been a great privilege to be Dean over 5 years of Dr. Price’s tenure. I have learned a great deal from him about leadership in tough times. We also have welcomed DVC A/Prof. Lange and we look forward to her leadership. There are also a number of Deans who have stepped down and new Deans who will be coming in. My term as Dean will come to an end on the 31st of August and the recruitment process has started for a new Dean of CHED. We also said farewell to David Casey, Director of Careers Service, whose commitment and drive will be sorely missed. While changes of leadership are not easy, they are good opportunities for new ways of thinking and acting. We have had several years of introspection, review, and developing high level strategic plans. It’s time to turn these into plans of action so that we can look back in 5 years’ time and see significant improvements in addressing our teaching and learning challenges.
