Nominate a former teacher for the Stella Clark Teacher's Award
UCT students are invited to nominate a teacher who is currently teaching in a secondary school and who, in your opinion, deserves recognition for years of dedicated teaching to students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.
Shongwe, who teaches at Mandlesive Secondary School in Mpumalanga, was selected to receive the prestigious University of Cape Town (UCT) accolade thanks to Sifumba’s sterling nomination to the Stella Clark Teachers’ Award committee.
Clarke was a language development lecturer in UCT’s Centre for Higher Education Development (CHED), and the award seeks to honour her memory by shining a spotlight on teachers making a marked difference in the lives of disadvantaged children in underprivileged communities.
A one-day introductory course into design thinking offered UCT staff and students valuable insights into this problem-solving skill and writer Carla Bernardo jumped at the chance to take part. Here she shares what she learnt.
